IMPACT AUDITIONS | MAY 21 & 22 | CALLBACKS MAY 23
IMPACT is a mixed-voice ensemble that performs contemporary a cappella literature. IMPACT is involved in several Youth Choral Theater (YCT) concerts and our annual competition in the Varsity Vocals International Championship of High School A Cappella.
Audition Information
Auditionees will sign up for a 10-minute time slot for either Tuesday, May 21 or Wednesday, May 22. Callbacks will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 4:30 PM-6:00 PM. Please email info@youthchoraltheater.com if you require any special audition scheduling accommodations. Participation in IMPACT requires student registration with Youth Choral Theater and annual tuition. Audition Requirements For the initial 10-minute time slot, auditionees will prepare 1 minute of a song of their choice (recommended excerpts should be one verse and one chorus from a contemporary and/or pop song). This song will be performed a cappella, and does NOT need to be memorized. Auditionees will also go through a series of vocal exercises for the director to determine vocal range, quality, and expression. For callbacks, auditionees will prepare their voice part of the provided excerpt - Where Have You Been/Only Girl. This excerpt does NOT need to be memorized. In addition, there will also be a short movement audition at callbacks. Please dress appropriately. Group Information Our first formal rehearsal will be Monday, September 9. Please see the attached sheet for our 2024-2025 draft calendar. Conflict sheets will be provided in the fall to list any school or personal conflicts with the existing schedule. Rehearsals are located at Winnetka Covenant Church, 1200 Hibbard Rd., Wilmette, IL 60091. A Fall Intensive will be scheduled when all members are selected and all schedules are coordinated. This intensive will be 2-3 days of introduction to contemporary a cappella and the competition community, building group chemistry, and beginning our music selections. All members are required to attend once dates are finalized. Rehearsals will be every Monday from 7:00 PM-8:30 PM, unless otherwise noted. Due to Monday holidays, several rehearsals have been scheduled for Wednesdays. Your attendance at all rehearsals and performances is required. IMPACT members are financially responsible for their competition attire - this will be determined in the fall. IMPACT members will also receive a group hoodie, t-shirt, or swag item, and this item is included in the cost of tuition. Competition Information The annual Varsity Vocals International Championship of High School A Cappella takes place during the months of February and March. We will request ONE weekend based on our student availability. If IMPACT moves to semifinals, these take place the 3rd or 4th weeks of March - this may overlap with Spring Break and students would need to be available if IMPACT was selected to advance. More info at varsityvocals.com/competitions. Our IMPACT rehearsal schedule will increase beyond our regular Monday classes in January and February for final competition preparations. All students will receive a conflict sheet to coordinate schedules. Please contact info@youthchoraltheater.com with any audition or IMPACT program questions. |
*does not include Fall Intensive - will be coordinated and scheduled according to student calendars
Other Conflicts
Students involved in theatre productions will be excused from the Monday rehearsal of performance week. Additional absences for productions will be excused on a case by case basis. If more than one absence occurs, participation in specific musical numbers, concerts, or competition will be reduced. Concert dates are not set for the 2024-2025 season due to venue contracting, but we will update all singers and families as soon as these are determined.
